Sant’Anna video footage. Sant’Anna di Stazzema in the province of Lucca. The small village, located above the hills of Alta Versilia is sadly famous for a massacre carried out by the Nazis during the Second World War. On 12 August 1944, four SS units carried out an extermination operation of all the inhabitants present in the village of Sant’Anna di Stazzema. Hundreds of people, probably 560, were brutally killed and their bodies burned in the courtyard in front of the church. Today an ossuary monument has been built on the site. Every year Sant’Anna is the destination of events to remember the tragic event.
