Apuan Alps in Tuscany. These mountains extend between Versilia, Garfagnana and Lunigiana in the provinces of Lucca and Massa Carrara. The composition of the stone that makes up these mountains is essentially Calcium Carbonate. The Apuan were in fact formed as a result of the pressure exerted on an enormous limestone deposit produced by dead aquatic microorganisms, such as coral and others. The vegetation of the mountains is very rich and varied due to the climatic and morphological characteristics of the mountain range.
