Covid holidays? “Pilgrimage” on the paths of the Cinque Terre and the Apuan Alps
Nature trails in the Cinque Terre and the Apuan Alps in the Covid era.
Between ancient sanctuaries and suggestive hermitages.
In the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, the trend holidays will be those of solitary tourism with excursions in the paths immersed in nature.
Two adjacent natural parks, the marine one of the Cinque Terre and that of the Apuan Alps, offer many ideas for planning cultural holidays in contact with the natural environment.
The Cinque Terre with the seaside villages of Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarona, Vernazza and Monterosso, in pre-Covid times, were very popular with crowds of tourists from all over the world. At that time, the visit was limited to a few walks on the famous “Via dell’Amore” which connects the towns along the coast.

Covid holidays on the trails of Liguria
Today, the need to limit contacts between people, a necessary condition for the Covid holidays, makes us rediscover the paths of the Cinque Terre perched on the hills behind the seaside villages. On the hills overlooking the villages, there are the three suggestive sanctuaries of Montenero, Nostra Signora di Reggio and Soviore, which can represent respective destinations for interesting tourist excursions.
The Sanctuary of Montenero can be reached by an easy path from Colle del Telegrafo, which allows you to enjoy the marine panorama, or by a steep path that climbs from the village of Riomaggiore.

Covid holidays walking in the mountains
The tourism of places of worship can continue on the Apuan mountains, towards the hermitages of San Viviano and Calomini, perched on the side of the Garfagnana.
The hermitage of San Viviano can be reached by a path that starts from the fairy-tale village of Campocatino in the municipality of Vagli di Sotto. The church, built by Viviano is set in the mountain and therefore very impressive. Viviano was an ascetic who lived in this valley eating the spontaneous products of the earth. He was revered by the locals as the protector of shepherds and quarrymen.

In the Cinque Terre, Covid holiday excursions can stop in the quiet Bed and Breakfasts present in the small villages on the hills, such as Volastra or San Bernardino, while in the Apuan Alps you can rely on the numerous alpine refuges, always open during the summer season.
