Stazzema massacre of Sant’Anna. Stock photos. On 12 August 1944 in this village located on the hills of Alta Versilia, troops of Nazis perpetrated a horrendous massacre of innocent civilians. Over 500 people were brutally killed, mainly women, children and the elderly. The collection of images includes the church and the ossuary monument erected on the top of the hill. Every year on 12 August commemorations are held in this locality where the main Italian and German authorities participate.
