Carrara and Colonnata famous for the production of white marble and for lard. Marble and lard are two related products and of the same white color. In the past, lard was used as a food by marble quarrymen who lived in the village in the middle of the quarries. In the village of Colonnata the houses are entirely built with marble stone masonry. In Carrara there is an academy of fine arts where the courses are in particular dedicated to marble sculpture. Of particular interest is the Romanesque cathedral built entirely of marble. Carrara e Colonnata famose per la produzione del marmo bianco e per il lardo. Marmo e lardo sono due prodotti affini e del medesimo color bianco. In passato il lardo era utilizzato come alimento dai cavatori di marmo che vivevano nel paese posto in mezzo alle cave. Nel borgo di Colonnata le abitazioni sono integralmente realizzate con muratura in sassi di marmo. A Carrara è presente un’accademia di belle arti dove i corsi sono in particolare dedicati alla scultura in marmo. Di particolare interesse anche il duomo in stile romanico tutto costruito in marmo.
