Detail of the facade of the church of Portovenere in white and gray marble in typical Ligurian Romanesque style. In Portovenere there are two ancient churches. The church of San Lorenzo is the oldest although less famous than that of San Pietro. The construction of San Lorenzo began in 1100 and in 1494 it was demolished by a naval bombardment by the Aragonese. La chiesa di San Lorenzo è quella più antica anche se meno famosa di quella di San Pietro. La costruzione di San Lorenzo iniziò nel 1100 e nel 1494 venne abbattuta da un bombardamento navale da parte degli aragonesi. La ricostruzione avvenne secondo lo stille barocco che sostituì quello romanico-gotico precedente.
